You have been studying about the Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union.  There is much debate within Russia these days concerning whether or not the Russian people are really better off than they were years ago as citizens of the Soviet Union.

You are to investigate the following web sites for additional information that will help you understand the differences between the Soviet Union style of government, economy, and culture and that of present day Russia.  Use this information along with your class notes to form an opinion as to which style of government is best.

Prompt: You are a newspaper editor in Russia. Many of your readers have written letters to the editor lately demanding a return to the establishment of the Soviet Union and the “old ways.” Write a persuasive editorial to your readers defending the fall of the empire or a return to the ”better days.”
