Writing an Effective Essay

 

You have been studying the organizational pattern of essays. You have also practiced writing essays on your own along with the editing and revising activities completed in class. Being able to write an effective essay is important, as we discussed. The are different types of essays, and we will be discussing each in more details next week.


Below are sites to essay writing tips, examples, and help questions. Explore each site and gather information about essay writing and how you can improve your essay writing skills. Take notes in your Composition Books for future reference:

Many students have many questions about writing an essay. Students have questions about the introduction paragraph, the body paragraphs, and the conclusion paragraph. Additionally, students have difficulties distinguishing between a topic sentence and thesis statement. While you are visiting these sites, be sure to write the characteristics of each paragraph found in an essay. Also, be able to explain when/where a topic sentence and thesis statement is used.
