Classifying Critters

* This D.I.G. activity is designed to increase your knowledge of living organisms and your ability to classify living organisms according to similar features.  It will introduce you to the classifications scientists use when grouping animals.

You will be visiting the internet site below in order to complete this D.I.G.  Please read the following directions:

1.      Carefully read the paragraphs to the left of the page.

2.      Click on challenge number one (the eagle).

3.      Answer the classification question by clicking on the appropriate animal.

4.      If you chose the correct animal, continue by answering the following question about what these animals have in common.

5.      If you answered incorrectly, guess again.  Once you’ve chosen the correct animal, continue by answering the following question about what these animals have in common.

6.      Once you’ve answered both questions correctly, click on the phrase, “Now go on…” and continue through question number 5.

What I want from you:

1.      Complete the “Classifying Critters” worksheet by listing the characteristics of birds, mammals, amphibians, fish, and reptiles on the provided chart.  You may want to take notes while you are at the computer answering the questions.

2.      When you have completed the chart, answer the 2 questions located at the bottom of the worksheet.

3.      Hand the completed worksheet in for a class work grade.
