Database Activities for the Classroom

 

ü      Explore planets to record size, distance from the sun, temperature, and special features.

ü      Maintain a database of students’ rock collection by type, composition, texture, luster…

ü      Use the food that’s available in “Mom’s kitchen,” categorize the food by different food groups, nutritional information, vitamins…

ü      Make a database from the information gathered on a field trip.

ü      After studying colonial history and immigration, make a database to record what countries the colonists came from.

ü      Study the celebration of Christmas or another holiday from around the world. Develop a database to record the name of the country, special games, attributes, customs, how “Merry Christmas” is said in the native language.

ü      Study a local habitat and devise a database of the different kinds of plants and animals.

ü      After studying the life cycle of butterflies, make a database of different kinds of butterflies, their continent found, size…

ü      After studying Balancing and Weighing, make a database of the weight (standard and metric) of certain objects.

ü      Make a daily sunrise and sunset database.

ü      Keep a daily database of weather patterns.

ü      Keep a database of books read by your class.  Add author name, fiction/non-fiction, date…

ü      Any kind of data can be kept in a database, be creative!
