A WebQuest for 7th Grade (SOCIAL STUDIES)

Introduction

Congratulations!  You and 3 of your classmates have been hired

by Welcome Aboard Travel to create a travel brochure to 4

Asian countries. Not only will this job allow you to work with

three of your peers, it may also allow you to explore many new

areas of the world.

  The Task

You and 3 of your classmates will be designing and creating a

travel brochure by using internet web sites.  Within this

brochure, you will be including general information about each

of your Asian countries and areas of historical and

recreational interest. You will also include pictures to make

your destinations more appealing. Remember, you are trying

to "sell" your ideas to potential clients.

You will also be responsible for an individual project consisting of a research paper containing a bibliography for LA class.  This is to be done on the country you chose to do for the brochure.

The Process

First you need to choose the 4 Asian countries you wish to

include in your brochure.

Each of you need to research your country for both the

brochure and a research paper.  Please keep careful records

of all sources you use and complete notes.

You need to find the following: 1. a detailed map of your country
                                            2. geographic descriptions
                                            3. list of major cities
                                            4. specific historical locations
                                            5. names and locations of areas
                                               of interest.
                                            6. pictures

Once all information has been collected, as individuals you

must sort through your collection, selecting the important

stuff and discarding the rest. You may want to keep some

information for your research paper and other information for the

brochure.  You will then need to write a description, in a

 persuasive form, for your brochure.

Persuasive language uses lots of detailed descriptions,

action verbs, and imaginative phrases.

Check out:   http://artsedge.kennedy-center.org/nso/asian/

for ideas on Asian travel.

After everything has been gathered and rough drafts

written, your group has to decide where they will go

first and how long they will stay there. The trip is to be

three weeks long. You need to find out how much airfare is

to each country and flight schedule. There are links below

for each of the major airlines.

You need to find the currency exchange for your countries.

The brochure should be colorful and informative.

A map of the world should also be included with a star on

each of the destinations visited.

You are print your collections and cut and paste them by

hand onto a piece of paper.
